Google Ads account suspended? Complete recovery guide

TL;DRA suspended Google Ads account stops all campaigns instantly and blocks the creation of new ones. In most cases the problem can be resolved if you identify the exact reason (Payments, Circumventing Systems, Misrepresentation, or Malware), fix the cause on the site and account, then submit a single, well-documented appeal. Google responds in 3-14 business days.

You log into Google Ads and find your campaigns aren't running. An account suspension can have a major business impact, especially if you depend on paid traffic for sales. The good news: in many situations the suspension can be resolved, if you find the cause and follow the recommended steps.

This article walks through why Google Ads accounts get suspended, the most common reasons, and what to do to request reactivation.

What does a Google Ads account suspension mean?

When Google suspends an account, all active campaigns stop immediately. Ads no longer show in search results, on YouTube, or in the Display network, and the user can't create new campaigns.

Suspension happens when Google considers there are policy violations or activities that may affect the user experience. In some cases the suspension only affects the Google Ads account; in others it extends to the entire payment profile, which also blocks creating a new account with the same billing data.

The most common reasons for suspension

1. Suspicious Payments

One of the most common causes is billing problems. Google can detect:

  • Cards repeatedly declined
  • Inconsistent payment information
  • Use of multiple suspicious payment methods
  • Billing data different from the company's

2. Circumventing Systems

This is one of the most severe violations. Google considers that the advertiser is trying to bypass platform policies through:

  • Creating multiple accounts to avoid restrictions
  • Hiding company information
  • Misleading redirects
  • Modifying content shown to Google vs. what's shown to users (cloaking)

WarningCreating a new account to avoid the old account's suspension is the fastest way to a permanent suspension of your entire payment profile. Fix the existing account. Don't run from it.

3. Misrepresentation

Google wants users to know exactly who they're doing business with. Missing company information can lead to suspension. Common issues include:

  • Incomplete contact details
  • No return policy
  • Missing company address
  • Exaggerated claims about products or services

4. Malware or security issues

If your site contains malware, compromised pages or elements dangerous to users, Google can quickly suspend campaigns until the situation is fixed. Regularly check with tools like Google Search Console → Security Issues or Sucuri SiteCheck.

How to identify the suspension reason

In most cases you'll receive an email from Google containing the reason. You can also check directly in:

Google Ads → Tools → Policy Manager

Google Ads → Notifications

There you'll find information about the policy violated and specific recommendations. Note the exact violation code (e.g. Circumventing systems, Misrepresentation, Suspicious payments), you'll need it in the appeal form.

What to check before appealing

Before submitting a request to Google, make sure you've ticked every item on the list below. An appeal sent without the real cause fixed is auto-rejected.

Site is fully functional

  • No 404 errors on important pages
  • SSL certificate is active and valid
  • All important pages (homepage, product, checkout, contact) load correctly
  • No browser warnings (“insecure site”)

Company is transparent

  • Company data displayed clearly (name, VAT ID, address)
  • Contact page with real email and phone
  • Terms & conditions
  • Privacy policy and return policy

Payment methods are valid

  • Card is active and funded
  • Billing data is correct and matches the site's
  • No outstanding payments to Google

How to submit the appeal to Google

After fixing the problems:

  • 01
Access the Google Ads policy center

Find the Help Center page dedicated to reactivation (Suspended account → Submit appeal) and make sure you're logged into the right account.

  • 02
    Select the suspended account

Identify it by Customer ID (10 digits, format XXX-XXX-XXXX). If you have multiple accounts under an MCC, select exactly the suspended one.

  • 03
    Fill in the appeal form

Explain exactly what changes you've made on the site and account. Be specific: which pages you added, what data you updated, which payment method you changed.

  • 04
    Attach evidence

Screenshots of fixed pages, valid SSL certificate, proof of updated payment method, direct link to the terms page. The more visual the evidence, the better.

  • A well-documented appeal has much higher chances of approval.

Common mistakes that lead to appeal rejection

Many advertisers submit appeals without fixing the real problem. Common mistakes:

    • Submitting multiple appeals in a row — Google's system treats them as spam and auto-rejects. Send one appeal and wait for the response.
    • Creating a new account instead of fixing the suspension — the worst mistake. Leads to suspension of the entire payment profile.
    • Providing incomplete explanations — “I fixed everything” isn't enough. Detail every change clearly.
    • Continuously modifying the site during review — the Google agent can't evaluate a moving target.

How long does Google take to respond?

    Standard response: 3-14 business days

During busy periods (Black Friday, holidays, major update launches) it may take longer, sometimes 3-4 weeks. Don't resubmit the appeal, wait for the official response. If the response is negative, you'll receive specific instructions on what else needs to change.
