Audit framework Β· Meta Ads

Our framework for Meta Ads assessment

An initial diagnostic checklist for tracking, structure, creative and measurement. We use it to organize the investigation, not to replace a complete account analysis.

How to Use This Framework

The framework is an iterative checklist. Work through the 31 checkpoints in order, tick what is correct and flag what needs fixing. At the end, you have a clear prioritized list.

What you need before starting:

πŸ“Š

Access to Ads Manager + Events Manager

Admin-level access to Business Manager. Without full access, you cannot verify critical settings (pixel events, attribution, custom audiences).

πŸ›οΈ

Access to Shopify/site analytics

To cross-check Meta-reported ROAS against actual sales. Differences typically indicate tracking or attribution issues.

⏰

An assessment session

The time required depends on account size, campaign count and the quality of data access.

πŸ“

A remediation document

For each failed checkpoint, record: the problem, estimated impact, priority (P0/P1/P2/P3) and estimated time to fix.

How to use the score: Each checked item helps orient the review, but the score does not automatically estimate losses or potential. Impact is established from account data, margins, stock, seasonality and the commercial source.
Section 1

Tracking and Attribution: 8 Checkpoints

The most expensive area for errors. If tracking is wrong, the ROAS you see is fictitious: you scale incorrectly and cut good campaigns.

01: Pixel & CAPI

02: Standard and custom events

A signal to investigate: A material difference between Meta attribution and store revenue may come from attribution windows, deduplication, consent or implementation. The difference alone does not prove the cause.
Section 2

Account Structure: 7 Checkpoints

03: Campaign count and budget distribution

04: Campaign types present

A pattern to check: Excessive fragmentation can scatter budget and signals. Consolidation is decided only after checking each campaign's objectives, markets, products and history.
Section 3

Creative & Pipeline: 6 Checkpoints

Creative is one of the main controllable factors. We assess it alongside the offer, audience, measurement, landing page and product economics.

05: Creative volume and frequency

06: Quality and format

Section 4

Scaling and Budget: 5 Checkpoints

07: Scaling tactics

08: Budget distribution

Section 5

Measurement and Reporting: 5 Checkpoints

09: Main metrics tracked

10: Reporting and decision frequency

Scoring

Scoring and Prioritization

Add up the checked items for orientation. The score shows how many checks are complete, not how much profit is missing or how much the account could grow.

28–31 checks complete

  • The foundation is documented
  • Optimization and testing remain
  • Scaling still requires clear economic thresholds

22–27 checks complete

  • Some areas require investigation
  • Prioritize tracking and the commercial source
  • We do not estimate impact without data

16–21 checks complete

  • Several risks remain open
  • Major changes must be controlled
  • An in-depth audit is useful

Fewer than 16 checks complete

  • The foundation needs clarification
  • We do not recommend scaling before validation
  • Check tracking and structure first
Conclusion
The framework does not replace a complete audit. If checks remain open, we can validate the data and prioritize issues by likely impact, effort and risk.

Frequently asked questions about this guide

Who is this framework for?

In-house media buyers (as a self-audit), business owners who want to assess an existing agency, or marketing managers taking over a new account. It requires admin access to Business Manager and knowledge of basic Meta Ads concepts (campaigns, ad sets, audiences).

What is the minimum healthy score?

The score is an internal prioritization tool. A critical tracking, policy or attribution issue may matter more than the total, so the result must be read alongside risk and commercial impact.

How long does a complete audit using the framework take?

You can make an initial assessment in approximately 30 minutes. A complete audit includes tracking validation, comparable periods, commercial context, evidence and remediation documentation, so timing depends on the account.
